Kiwi Kobori Takes Lead in Asia-Pac Amateur Golf

New Zealand's Kazuma Kobori fired a 5-under 66 to lead the 2023 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship at Royal Melbourne by two strokes after the first round.

Kobori's round was highlighted by four consecutive birdies on holes 10-13, and a bonus birdie on 17. He also showed great mental toughness to make two tough pars on his last two holes, despite playing in front of a large crowd.

Kobori is one of the most talented amateur golfers in the world, and he has a long list of accomplishments, including winning the New Zealand PGA at the age of 17, the Australian Amateur earlier this year, and the Western Amateur in August.

If Kobori goes on to win the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, he will earn an invitation to play in the Masters Tournament and The Open Championship. But even if he doesn't win, he is clearly ready to turn professional and compete at the highest level.
